Well as of last Friday, I am now no longer a London commuter. Those words in themselves make me a very happy man, as I am able to say, that despite it trying several times and indeed trying very hard the once, over the seven years I was doing it on a motorbike, I was able to survive the London commute.
I don’t know what the future will hold for me down on the South Coast, but the biker in me knows there’s a whole new road layout to explore and great places to see and feel, all with the benefit of two wheels to guide my journey.
Over the last few years I have been fairly vocal about my distain for riding in Central London; its dangers, its problems, but I have also made comment on its benefits and secrets. Despite the danger and it not being the truest form of riding, the motorbike remains an almost perfect choice of commuting tool. For me, it cost £15 a week (give or take) for a nearly 20 mile round trip, I always  got a seat and I was pretty much always in control of my journey. It was only very, very rarely I found myself a slave to the person in front of me, or subordinate to a larger transport infrastructure and not once did some annoying industrial dispute ruin my day before it started.
So goodbye London, hello the Jurassic Coast….and cheaper insurance. Now that is a buy one get one free offer that I’m really interested in.

    Me

My name is Matt Brown and I'm a UK journalist formerly based in London, but now calling the South of England home. I've been riding bikes since 2007, but got hooked straight away. Nothing gives me the feeling of freedom, even when stuck in a city. In 2010 I became a RoSPA gold rider, but when it comes down to it, I'm Just a normal man, riding his bikes as often as he can.
