Anyway, winter is about to set in and after five years of riding, I've realised that heated grips are the way forward. I headed down to Metropolis in Barnet to see Mike and Artur on Wednesday afternoon and after a bit of work and jiggery pokery, I now have some R&G grips fitted. I've saved the Progrips that I originally put on the bike shortly after getting it (the originals were horrid) and as they are are super comfy I may see if they fit the Ducati. I still have to take give the ZX a good clean and spray with some ACF50 before the salt goes down. Not the sexiest of jobs, but I'll feel better once it's done
Well its been an interesting week for me. Monday and Tuesday were misty and foggy, which as a biker, is just horrible. I was having to wipe my visor every 30seconds as every piece of light was refracting of all the water droplets that had accumulated . Yesterday I was sat at a set of traffic lights on the Zx7 when a man on a scooter pulled up next to me and said 'Wow mate, thats a realo piece of history....bloody heavy thou 240kilos. I used to have one with those hoover pipes' I wasn't sure if he was taking the piss or not, but I told him those pipes were fake and didn't do shit as I smiled back at him. Then the lights changed and I left him for dead. I like the Zx7r and I dont think its that old as its no BSA, RD350 or Kettle. The Zx7r is a future classic but I doubt that it will ever make iconic status, but only time will tell.

I've done some work on the ZX7R page today, but yesterday I did a bit of work on the Ducati itself. I had taken off my side panels of my 1098 to fix an oil leak, which I did, and wanted to clean up the two panels and put them back on. Cleaning done, right panel on no problem, left panel..... I've managed to cross thread two of the three bolts that fix the panel to the nose across the top. The bolt has hooked onto and the nut in it rubber housing and wont do up or undo just turning around like some sorry pastiche of the magic f-ing roundabout. I've tried all manner of things and really annoyingly marked the fairing a bit trying to cut it off. Its only a small mark, but knowing that I did it has really p###ed me off!. It was bad enough doing it to one, then when I did the second, I thought ARRRGGGHHHH. I popped to the Metropolis today and spoke to Arthur, my mechanic, who a great bloke (in fact that all are down there, I'd be lost without them) and he gave me some pointers. Failing that, he said bring it in and he'd have a crack at it. Before I have another go, I need to go and buy some longer needle nose plyers to help Just done some updating to the My other rides section. The site is coming along, albeit a little slowly. Slow and steady wins the race. Yeah, tell that to Usain Bolt
Well after a few days wrapped up with some boring admin work at home, I've managed to do a little updating and the site is starting to take shape. Ive added some new sections, like the ZX7R years, The Ducati, Motorbike media and My kit. I plan on updating these as I go with some relevant stuff, so hopefully it will turn out okay. We shall see
Well this is weird! If all goes right this is my first ever blog post and I think it's clear to all that I'm learning as I go. The genesis of this website and this blog started a few years ago when I realised that I really wanted to write about motorcycles. After several tries at getting a job in motorcycle journalism (I even had a few interviews) I decided that if there wasn't a job for me somewhere, then I'd create my own.
The general plan for this site is to write about my exploits on my bikes, which will include (hopefully) articles on the bikes themselves, maintenance, noteworthy rides and trackdays, the kit I use and the things I learn. I hope if you read anything, that you enjoy it and that hopefully it makes you smile. |
MeMy name is Matt Brown and I'm a UK journalist formerly based in London, but now calling the South of England home. I've been riding bikes since 2007, but got hooked straight away. Nothing gives me the feeling of freedom, even when stuck in a city. In 2010 I became a RoSPA gold rider, but when it comes down to it, I'm Just a normal man, riding his bikes as often as he can.
