In other news I've tried to get myself booked in for the Ducati museum tour for July. As it will be World Ducati Week, I've probably already left it a little too late, but we'll have to wait and see.
Well that time is nearly upon me. My 1098s is now at the dealers in preparation for tomorrows Desmo service, a service which has been known to put off a lot of potential owners. With that in mind I will be spending the whole day down at Metropolis in Barnet documenting exactly what goes on with the intention of writing an article. Hopefully this will help be tick of one of my bucket list items, but we shall have to wait and see for now.

Ever since the accident that smashed up my ankle a few years ago, it has been susceptible to flaring up every now and again, normally during, or after a half decent run. Last Monday I don't think I warmed up properly or stretched or something, because my ankle 'locked' up a few hours later. My week off has given it time to rest but as the weather today was pretty good, I took advantage of an extra rest day and instead took the 1098s out for a play. After warming her up and checking the tyres I headed out to Wooburn Green in Buckinghamshire and I pretty much just stuck to the main roads. Riding the Monster had almost made me forget the savage amount of power my Superbike actually has. I'd love to really compare it to an 1198 and 1199 just to see where my bike fits in with the Ducati family.
Heading off the motorway and towards the little village I was coming out of a national speed limit and heading into a thirty when I spotted at the bottom of the hill a speed enforcement van. Hate those things especially as I think that was running between 35 and 40 into the 30 limit. If I get a fine, then so be it. To be honest it wouldn't make a huge difference to my licence and the way that I've ridden/driven on the motorways and fast A Roads in the past, I'm probably due a few points. The reason for my trip was to look at a ZX6R in a local garage. The bike was nice, the price was not and it was possibly the coldest building I have ever been in. Nice bloke in the shop though. On the way back I grabbed a coffee at Beaconsfield Services which is now famous be being the first service station to have a working pub there. I was pleased to see that there was hardly anybody in there, with far more drivers/passengers taking the Starbucks option. In my opinion putting a pub in a services is utterly ridiculous. One can only hope that Thames Valley Police station some officers right by the exit 24 hours a day to nick people who have had one too many. After I got home I stripped off the side panels in preparation for the Desmo service on Wednesday. I don't think my wallet is ready for the shock to be honest. I know This afternoon I got back from a lovely five day break away in a lovely sleepy little village in Dorset. It was amazing, but as a result, no biking for me. In one of the many quiet moments I did however order up some new proskins baselayers, so hopefully they'll arrive in the next few days.
The only other vaguely piece of bike based news is that whilst away Sarah and I started to re-watch the Long Way Round, the TV series with Ewan Mcgregor and Charley Boorman. Its commonly held that this is the series which really seemed to jump start the whole BMW GS Adventure fad, buts what's actually really interesting that as of April this year, this trip/TV series is ten years old. Makes you think doesn't it. |
MeMy name is Matt Brown and I'm a UK journalist formerly based in London, but now calling the South of England home. I've been riding bikes since 2007, but got hooked straight away. Nothing gives me the feeling of freedom, even when stuck in a city. In 2010 I became a RoSPA gold rider, but when it comes down to it, I'm Just a normal man, riding his bikes as often as he can.
